Having cards left in error isn't uncommon - often the carrier is filling them out before hand in the event they can't deliver something but then ends up leaving them by accident even if the item was actually delivered. If the number isn't showing anything in the tracking then either it was left in error and never actually corresponded to anything, or it corresponded to an item that didn't have tracking - could have even been a large or particularly rigid letter that might not have fit in your mailbox.
